With little care, your jewelry will last a lifetime. Here’s some general tips to help your jewelry stay in great condition.
Be careful with light and heat
Just as the sun’s harmful rays can damage our skin, light and heat can affect a colored gemstone’s durability and color. Over time, and in excess, they can also fade or damage some gemstones. Fortunately, with diamonds, sapphires, and rubies light and heat are of no concern!
Keep Your jewelry Away From Chemicals
Exposure to harsh chemicals can damage or discolor precious metals – gold, silver, and platinum – and may harm some colored gems. Even everyday substances like hairspray, lotion, perfume, or other cosmetics can contain chemicals that will permanently damage the surface of your pearls and other delicate or porous gems (like turquoise).
Safe cleaning is easy cleaning
Engagement Rings with diamonds and sapphires can be soaked in a dish of mild soap and warm water for 10 minutes and then scrubbed with a soft toothbrush and rinsed under hot water.
Safely Store Your Jewelry
Proper jewelry storage is often overlooked. Jewelry should never be tossed into a drawer or on top of a dresser − that’s asking for scratches and damaged gems. Use the D/R Jewelry box your ring came in for safe storage at night or during chores!
